Image Analysis of Implants

In total hip arthroplasty (THA), accurate positioning of acetabular and femoral components is important to achieve improved functionality and longevity of the implant, reducing the need of revision surgery. Assessing component orientation post surgery helps understand if the plan has been achieved and is crucial for monitoring. Component motion (or migration) over time is also very important as it can provide crucial info for the clinical follow-up strategy and an indication for revision surgery as well as providing info on the clinical performance of a specific implant type.

Assessing in-vivo performance of implants has traditionally relied on clinical outcomes and re-revision rates as an endpoint. We work on the development of robust methodologies to study implant performance in-vivo.
